A couple years later, his career is floundering. I was actually amazed that the Cincinnati Reds even gave him a chance.
Hopefully, he can have more success. Doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon, though.
Wilis made his seventh start of the season today and had trouble with his control. He gave up four runs on six hits and a pair of walks while retiring only eight batters. He also threw two wild pitches, one of them allowing a run to score. After giving up a single in the third inning, the manager and trainer came out to the mound to look at him. Willis left the game flexing and shaking his left (throwing) hand. The Reds said he had a sore forearm and would be re-examined Monday.
Hopefully this doesn't set Willis back too far.
I was really impressed with Dontrelle Willis during the early part of his career with the Florida Marlins. He threw hard and won games.
